The Department for Work and Pensions have been under considerable pressure to provide a full and thorough breakdown of exactly how much is claimed in benefits by EU Migrants. Iain Duncan Smith said: “It is no surprise they didn’t want to release the figures!”The total amount of benefits paid is a staggering £4billion!
In 2017 EU migrants received over £2.2billion in tax credits/housing benefits, £1.1billion in out-of-work benefits and £700million in child benefit. Citizens from Eastern Europe now receive more in welfare than the average British citizen while at the same time paying less income tax. The study also showed nearly half of all Income Tax from Romania, Poland and other countries goes back in the form of tax credits and child benefit.
