An Open Letter to Anna Soubry & The Remain Establishment

Dear Anna,

Firstly we would like to say we write this letter in the spirit of good faith, openness and tolerance of opinions. We at UK Unity are a grassroots movement with over 35,000 supporters representing people from all walks of life, backgrounds, races, nationalities & sexualities. The one thing we all have in common is that on the 23rd of June we proudly voted to leave the European Union in the largest electoral mandate the UK has ever witnessed.

Both during the referendum and even more so since there has been a drive to demonise us leave voters as poorly educated, unsure of the facts and xenophobic. In the last few weeks both you and others have gone one step further in somehow insinuating that Brexit voters are 'far-right'. For the purposes of clarity we do not think you are a Nazi but what we do feel is that you are able to freely use inappropriate words to engage in a campaign of guilt by association of Brexit voters whilst not being prepared to accept criticism yourself.

Wanting to control immigration and cut immigration is a platform that you were elected on as a Conservative Party MP. Likewise you were also elected on a party manifesto that clearly stated it would implement the will of the people with regards exiting the EU. On the same day that you were met outside Parliament Owen Jones was also videoed issuing slurs. The term 'Gammon' which is a racially charged term and is grossly offensive is used greatly by those on the remain side and we ask why is this tolerated?

We the undersigned are asking 3 things of you and the remain campaign in general:

1- Tone down your own language and rhetoric before seeking to smear others

2- Respect the fact that you were elected on a manifesto pledge to Leave the European Union

3- Accept the fact the Referendum of 2016 was a once in a lifetime opportunity and the result stands

If you are unable to do so we the undersigned would politely suggest that you should resign as both a member of the Conservative Party and Member of Parliament for Broxtowe.

Does Mrs ‘Sore-Berry’ realise she is demonising a great swathe of the population, of whom she has no idea who we are personally ?

Why is it so wrong to be right yet OK to be left ?

Ms Soubry. As others have pointed out, your constituency voted to leave on roughly the same ratio as the national average and you stood for election on the Conservative manifesto, both of which you are now in conflict with. Your prediction of doom if we leave without a deal is only your opinion and has no more substance than mine that holds the opposite view. When Theresa May took over the PM’s job she was handed a mandate from the electorate to take the country in a new direction. Sadly, and encouraged by the Remain side of her argument she has fundamentally failed. Unless something changes soon, both you and the Tory party in general will pay a heavy price at the next election.

The remainers should have no say regarding Brexit as they were defeated in the referendum, we said out no ifs or buts, out full stop.

I believe her constituents referendum result was a majority for leaving. She’s doing a great job representing them! I trust they will take that into account at any future General Election

In 2011 Anna Soubry lambasted the EU saying it was expensive and not fit for purpose and a waste of taxpayers money. Why has she changed her mind. Hypocrisy of the first order, she should resign because of her total disregard for the people of this country and democracy itself.

I, an elderly classical liberal – passionately anti racist, and with many non-white friends – have had the insults “Nazi”, “racist”, and “fascist scum” hurled at me at Brexit rallies, and Owen Jones described me and my colleagues at a recent rally in similar terms (while inverting the large number of Brexiteers at the rally with the much smaller group protesting against us, and abusing us). While I defend the freedom of speech of all involved in the struggle over Brexit – unless what is said directly incites or threatens violence – I have been shocked and appalled by the arrogant and contemptuous attitude of Remainers to those whose vote prevailed in the referendum, and the abuse they have inflicted on Brexiteers. And I am now doubly shocked by the hypocrisy of the vocal Remainers involved, now condemning the small number of Brexiteers who have responded in kind.
